As described in the Telegraph, “The Newt is one of the most exceptional country house hotels Britain has seen.” The South African owners, Koos Bekker and his wife Karen Roos have put their heart and soul into restoring and perfecting this beautiful estate to produce a top luxury hotel that is continually evolving and growing in excellence.
The Instruction
We were taken on as their business rates advisors to mitigate any Business rate of Council Tax liability. In addition to the hotel with a rateable value of £462,000 there are at least 30 other properties and growing all the time as the business expands.
The Result
It has involved applying for reliefs where due, challenging existing assessments, deleting assessments, merging where possible, agreeing liability dates and a multitude of other factors all of which impact on the tax liability.
