This is a former Industrial building which had been refurbished over the years to
form a high quality workspace for small entrepreneurial businesses. Projected
rateable value £100,0000
The Instruction
Our instruction was to review the existing assessment and find ways of mitigating any
increase as a result of the recent improvemsnts to the building.
At that time, it was assessed as an old industrial building on a very low rateable value of
just £9,000 but this we knew would soon change when the improvements were picked up
with an estimate of a revised rateable value of at least £100,000 and a liability to the client
of over £50,000 per annum.
The Result
Following our advice to split into small self contained units with each occupier qualifying for
Small Business Rates relief, we successfully reduced our clients liability to zero saving him
over £50,000 per annum.
